Deforestation
At
one time in the past, old-growth forests once inhabit the 48 states of
the U.S. Today it is estimated that 95-97% of these forests have been cut
down.
Most
of the forest that exists in the United States today is not owned by the
public. Table 1.0 gives the percentage of forest ownership in the United
States:

We
need to conserve our trees wisely.
Presently there are 165 national
forests in the U.S. Table 3.2 lists the forest resources:

We get many things from the
forest ranging from products such as pencils to getaways from the city
life.
What
are some possible solutions to reduce the destruction of the remaining
forests?
1. Reduce the yearly
sale of wood by 50%.
2. Greatly raise the
price of wood sold from national forests and public lands.
3. Eliminate the urge
to buy unrecycled paper and products.
4. Adopt conserving
trees by buying recycled paper and products.
5. Contact your local
congressman or write letters to the Senate, addressing the issues in deforestation.
